Max Ventures was born out the Basset Investment Group and its founder, Max Stenbeck. Max was a fearless investor who had a passion for technology and the people behind the innovations. Since September of 2013, we've built a successful investment track record by backing entrepreneurs who possess extraordinary personal and professional skills. Some of our notable investments include Boxed, ZoomCar, Button, and Drone Racing League.
Max Ventures continues the same approach to early-stage investing by backing entrepreneurs who have unique consumer insights and are relentless about getting things done.
Creating something meaningful from scratch is extremely hard, but also very rewarding. We’re going to invest at the beginning and be there when you need us.
Being a successful investor begins with humility and the desire to learn. We set out to build relationships with entrepreneurs who have unique insights into how technology can change the world for the better. Our strategy is to find entrepreneurs who are just beginning their entrepreneurial journey but are working on ambitious ideas.
Our investments are guided by a Founder driven thesis that Product and Brand focused Founders are in the best position to create and build meaningful businesses. We have built a track record of successfully backing founders in industries such as commerce, fintech, hardware, media, and digital health; but several of our most successful investments were concepts that we weren’t actively thinking about.
We've found that we can be most helpful to our entrepreneurs in the following areas:
When you are fundraising, we’ll run an efficient and transparent process and layout ways we can potentially help. If we don't feel comfortable investing, you won't have to sit through ten meetings to find that out.
Following an investment, we want to be engaged and serve as a resource for the founding teams. In the past we've assisted our founders by helping with future fundraising, making key hires, new business development opportunities, press, and developing frameworks for making important decisions. As you grow your business, there will inevitably be many obstacles to navigate and we’ll do whatever we can to help you succeed.
When getting to know a founding team, we want to understand your personal and professional background. The founding team is the most heavily weighted factor in our decision making process, so it’s where we spend most of our time prior to making an investment decision.
Our goal is to clearly understand who you are as a person, why you want to spend the next decade building this company, and how you envision the future. When building a company from the ground up, we believe your determination, ability to focus, and think creatively are more important than your pedigree.
Max Ventures has invested in founding teams that have nothing more than an idea to teams that have built a fully functioning product with several months of metrics. When we evaluate a product we ask ourselves the following questions:
Though seeing a working prototype is ideal, it's not imperative since we invest early and in strong founding teams.
The market dynamic is different for every start-up we meet. We’ve previously invested in start-ups that are taking on large markets with established companies by applying new technology. However, we equally like start-ups that are early in a segment where the current market is small, but growing rapidly.
We want to understand the dynamic of the market you are operating in today and then try to get our heads around where the market could be in 5-7 years.
