Ryan is a seasoned operator and investor with a proven track record of over 10 years. Prior to Founding Max Ventures, he co-founded Basset Investment Group with Max Stenbeck. Ryan ran the entire operation from sourcing to working directly with portfolio company CEOs post investment.
Before co-founding Basset, Ryan was a Principal at Modern Holdings, a small market private equity firm in Summit, NJ. Prior to Modern Holdings, Ryan was at FLO Thinkery - an incubator and design firm. While at FLO, Ryan helped incubate two consumer start-ups - both of which have gone on to be successful independent companies. Ryan started his career at Ingram Industries where he held Operational and Business Development roles.
Ryan is a Mentor at Venture for America and iMentor in New York City. He previously served on the board of Phoenix Club – one of the biggest non-profit fundraising arms for the Boys and Girls Club. Ryan holds a MBA from Vanderbilt University where he graduated with honors, and an undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee where he played Division I college baseball.

Sophie Stenbeck is a Founding Partner and Anchor LP at Max Ventures. Sophie is the founding partner of The SEA Fund – an early-stage investor in health, environment and education companies. Sophie has been an active early-stage investor in a wide range of industries and technologies, including retail, virtual reality, enterprise software, financial technologies, crypto currency, and telecom. She has extensive experience investing globally for over a decade.
Sophie also co-founded Imperative, a company focused on bringing purpose to the work environment for the millennial generation. Earlier in her career, she worked in the political and media sectors in Los Angeles and New York.
Sophie is an investor and board member at Penske Media Corporation - a leading digital media company whose content attracts a monthly audience of over 180 million people. In addition, Sophie is a dedicated philanthropist through the Sophie Stenbeck Family Foundation, focusing on child rights, education, and fighting trafficking. She is a co-founding board member of the Swedish Queen’s World Childhood Foundation and the Chairman of the Stenbeck Stiftelse. Sophie co-founded the Child 10 awards that honor and support social entrepreneurs from around the world that fight the trafficking of children. Sophie received a B.A. in English and American Literature from New York University and studied entrepreneurial finance at UCLA Anderson School of Management.
